A NAME, A GOOD NAME

A name as used in this context is on a wider level.

As people who value life and fear God, we must strive to 'build' a good name for ourselves.

This is beneficial, not only to us in the long run, but to our children and children after.

The kind of person people say you are, is the name you have built for yourself.

WHO DO PEOPLE SAY YOU ARE? Some may say "I don't care the kind of person people say I am". Ah, you should care o. Even Jesus wanted to know the kind of person people said He was. He asked His disciples "Who do people say I am?"

I remember four and a half years ago when I was working in an establishment. I had a boss who was 'very' particular about me; and wherever my name was concerned, he made sure he victimized me. He always picked on me. Accusing me of doing things I never did and always pushing blame on me. It was so severe that a colleague had to ask if I had known him before working in that organization and whether I offended him. of course the answer to both question is NO. Remember, it is what people say that matters, not what one bad belle says. Eventually, I had to resign. Why? TO SAVE MY NAME! I had to save my name before he turns it to a name that my children will not be proud of, or other family and friends will be ashamed of.

Let us all strive to have a good name. A good reputation, an enviable identity.

When your name is mentioned, what is the first thing that comes to the mind? Is it pretender, angry, proud, cheat, liar, and the likes. Or caring, kind, hospitable, loving, godly or even angelic?

WHO DO PEOPLE SAY YOU ARE?

THE BIBLE SAYS:

"A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches..." Proverbs 22:1

                               and

"A good name is better than precious

Ointment..." Eccl 7:1.

He that has ear let him hear.

Like, seriously, it baffles me. In fact, it amazes me. Maybe because I do not see admitting my fault as a big deal. I like to admit when I am wrong and apologize when need be. That is why it amazes me when people will rather lose years of meaningful relationship and friendship than say the simple words 'I am sorry'.  It is worthy of note though, that admitting your wrong and saying you are sorry to the offended party doesn't stop there. It goes beyond just saying it, you have to actually mean it when you say it. Some people say they are sorry just because they want that episode to pass. Then, they go and commit the same blunder again or even worse the next time. That is not good at all. I use the phrase 'not good' for lack of a stronger one.  See, saying sorry for your wrong doing (when you are sincere) does not reduce your person, worth or importance in any way. WHO ARE YOU RAISING?

Some time ago, I saw the video of a little girl of about 16 months old who took hold of a wallet full of money. She brought out 2 notes from it, tuck them in front of her dress (breast area) and closed the wallet back. She then stylishly put it back where she took it from.  I was shocked!  It is easy to deduce from that video that the child must have seen an adult do such at one time or the other. So, she is copying that adult (most likely a female who can steal and hide money in her bra). Who can she be mimicking? Giving the most probable assumption... Maybe her mother, how she secretly takes the father's money and tuck into her bra. She sees it done in her presence, and she does likewise.  Even if it isn't the mum she copied. The fact is that she saw something bad and she did likewise.
