THE EFFECT OF PEER PRESSURE

Image
This is a WAKE UP CALL for everyone. The picture attached to this write up is the picture of a girl I will like to refer to as El (real name withheld). I told her guardian to help me take the picture during one of my counselling (therapy) session with El. Before El's guardian took the picture I already told her that I will use it on our page. But I told the guardian I don't want El's face to be seen, so she took the picture from El's back view. This was done intentionally to protect El interest & privacy. At the time of this counselling/therapy session done, El was 12 years old. El is a girl enrolled in a boarding school by her mum who resides outside the country. In the said boarding school, she has a school mother and her school mother has a group of friends. I will like to refer to them as a sect or a cult. This is because during my finding I realize that they always target young girls who have parents abroad and they extort them. So, El became a target...

WHO DO PEOPLE SAY YOU ARE?

Image
It's okay to take care of your physical outlook. But what of your mind?  What of your inner self?  It is what you are INSIDE that MATTERS MORE than your physical appearance⚡  I have been called names like 'small but mighty'. It is not because I am small like that oh 😁 (I am average height). But people call me that because they see my works: measure it with my physique and WONDER. Who do people say you are? Not the 'gbeboruns' oh, those that have objectively discovered the real you. Those that matter...who do they say you? TAKE THINGS EASY

CALM DOWN Take things easy. It's one day at a time. Abeg no wound yourself. Nobody's life is perfect. The difference between you and the other person's countenance is determined by how well they have mastered the act of putting on a beautiful smile despite all odds. MY NAME IS OLUGBEMIGA

Image
My name is Olugbemiga  Actually, during my growing up years, I was referred to as Olu.  Almost every one who called me Olu back then, didn't know what the full name is. Some people even thought it was just a nickname.  So, here you have it. It's my birth name and it is Olugbemiga in full. It is a Yoruba name meaning 'God has promoted me' and it literally means 'God has lifted me up'. I was given that name because immediately after I was born, my dad's delayed and long awaited promotion which was long overdue was given to him. This name was given to me by my late paternal Uncle; Rare Admiral Oladipupo Oduwaiye (Check my previous post for more juicy gists about him. (Also always stay tuned to this space and you will be blessed). The name Olugbemiga or Gbenga for short is masculine, it is mostly given to male babies or children. But that was the name I was given 🤔🤔.  I believe my uncle had to shun the masculinity of that name and focus on the meaning and dept...

FOR GIST LOVERS

Image
Come, let me gist you...  I just heard the full story this year; on the 28th day of August 2022 to be precise. I have always known as it was mentioned in between discussions from time to time that I have been carried into an airplane as a baby but I wasn't privy to the full gist. So, I asked questions.  My uncle of blessed memory made it happen!  Let me tell you about my uncle; his name is Rare Admiral Victor Oladipupo Oduwaiye. He was a very famous man in his time. A man who dined with the crème de la crème of the then Nigerian society. He was very wealthy but humble and kind. This man was full of love, kindness and selflessness. He was good natured and was a people-person. He embraced others; no matter their financial or social status.  He helped improve the lives of a lot of people and my dad was a beneficiary.  He was contributory to my father's education and initial progress in life as a youth. He made sure even after my dad got married, he was a supp...

IMPACT

Image
Very few films can drive home lessons that makes me pause and do some critical, analytic and mind thundering reasoning about life, team work, progress or vision. The movie; 'Rise' is one of them.  "Rise" is based on the real-life story of the Antetokounmpo family who lived in Greece.  The family name is actually Adetokunbo.  Adetokunbo is a Nigerian name from the Yoruba descent. It means 'The King has returned from across the seas'.  The name Adetokunbo was later misspelt as 'Antetokounmpo' after going through the Greek auto-correct merciless screening 🤣.  The movie is majorly about the  brothers @giannis_an34, @thanasis_ante43 and @kostas__ante13 , the first trio of brothers to become NBA champions in league history - Giannis and Thanasis while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks and Kostas as a Los Angeles Laker. I was so touched by the series of events that took place in this movie. It is worthy of note that It is based on a true life story. And I am ...

REALITY CHECK

Image
Facing reality Reality check Not being in denial... That is the consciousness every mother of male child(ren) need to possess in raising their sons. Train them to be good sons who will eventually be excellent husbands and fathers. Train them with that mindset (whatever/whosever you want them to become in future; start imbibing the training now) and when they grow up, the new family they build will BLESS you! Have a picture in mind (vision) of what you want your child to be and start working towards achieving that vision NOW. EVERY GOOD PARENT IS A VISIONARY, DON'T BE AN EXCEPTION. AS A PARENT , YOU ARE A CREATOR. So, have a mental picture of what the end product of your creation will look like and START WORKING. May GOD help us so that we do not fail in our parental responsibilities. Elizabeth Oduwaiye --Touching the world POSITIVELY, one person at a time. #lifeskillscounsel #parenting

YOUR PERSPECTIVE

Image
The way you see or view things and circumstances may most times differ from the way others view or see those same things. David saw Goliath as an opportunity to display the power of God while other Israelites saw Goliath as an insurmountable problem.  One person may see a challenge as a problem that must be avoided while another may see that same difficulty as an opportunity for progress. A very good example is given by a man of God I respect so much about the management of a company.  The company management sent one of their staff to check the Economy viability of a particular community to know whether a shoe factory will thrive there.  The first person that was sent reported thus: "The inhabitants there were not wearing shoes, so a shoe factory will be a waste of resources". He said it is not a good place to establish a shoe factory. And that if the factory is established, the company staff will be the only ones using the shoes manufactured by them 😯.  A se...

OLUWATOBILOBA

Image
OLUWATOBILOBA Ayomide Amusan is a Nigerian track and field athlete who specializes in the 100 metres hurdle and also competes as a sprinter.  During her last 100 metres run at the World Athletic Championship, she made it in record time of 12 seconds, setting for herself, Nigeria and the entire world a new record. She is a 25 years old lady born by teacher parents on the 23rd April 1997.   In 2016, Amusan twitted this on Twitter "Unknown now, but soon, I will be UNFORGETTABLE... I will Persist until I SUCCEED...".  That was 6 years ago.  She was just 19 years old then. But SHE WAS A 19 YEARS OLD LADY WITH A VISION. She was positive, resilient determined and most importantly DISCIPLINED.  2013, the athlete was disqualified at World Athletics U18 Championships in Donetsk, Ukraine, for lane infringement during the 200m semi-finals but she didn't allow that to deter or discourage her.  The disqualification instead made her think of other ways to succeed.  S...

WHEN MERE WORDS DEFINE

Image
Some time ago, a mechanic came to do repairs on the vehicle in our family compound and I was present. I noticed the mechanic was extra respectful towards me. Yes, I expected the respect because I am older but not to the extent he was willingly giving it. Though, I didn't say anything, but I knew something must have happened to prompt that magnitude of accord he was giving me. I later got to know through my younger brother that he and the mechanic talked about me and my brother told him things that got even me flattered when I heard. He said the mechanic was like “wow”, hence the respect. I learnt some lessons from the incident above that I will like to share with you: Whatever you say about people affects their image and how people see them; so be mindful of what you say about others. Humans tend to believe the things you tell them about others even if those things are not proven to be true. The words you speak are seeds, whether the hearer likes it or not; those words germinate an...

A NAME, A GOOD NAME

Image
A name as used in this context is on a wider level. As people who value life and fear God, we must strive to 'build' a good name for ourselves. This is beneficial, not only to us in the long run, but to our children and children after. The kind of person people say you are, is the name you have built for yourself. WHO DO PEOPLE SAY YOU ARE? Some may say "I don't care the kind of person people say I am". Ah, you should care o. Even Jesus wanted to know the kind of person people said He was. He asked His disciples "Who do people say I am?" I remember four and a half years ago when I was working in an establishment. I had a boss who was 'very' particular about me; and wherever my name was concerned, he made sure he victimized me. He always picked on me. Accusing me of doing things I never did and always pushing blame on me. It was so severe that a colleague had to ask if I had known him before working in that organization and whether I offended h...
