ENGLISH DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE
It makes me smile when people try to guess what my course of study was in the higher institution and they say 'English'.
The truth is that the course I studied in the university is not even in any way related to English language.
It doesn't even come close.
As an inquisitive person, I made my findings and got to know that the reason why people think I studied English language is because of my impeccable spoken and written English.
It is worthy of note that at some point during my active teaching years, my boss had to compel me to become an English teacher.
He obviously knew that was not my area of specialization but he was so sure I would do well as a primary school English teacher.
So he took that step of faith 😁
Most people don't know this but I will reveal it to you today. The secret to my mannerisms, comportment, admirable command of the English Language is that I READ A LOT!
Oh! I never got tired of reading. I still read but not as much as I used to.
Responsibilities and work has reduced my reading time.
I still find time to read. Though, not as much as I did when I didn't have this much commitment.
Despite that, I am reaping the dividends of the reading that I have done and am still doing.
WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT READING DOES FOR YOU?
1. It teaches you lessons from other people's experiences and stories.
2. It educates you. So much so that the places you've never been to, you can learn about their values, customs and culture just by reading.
3. Reading is an eye opener. As the saying goes; knowledge is power.
4. If you are not a lazy reader, it helps to improve your command of English.
5. You can learn etiquettes, good morals and responsibility by reading the right kind of books.
6. It gives you exposure.
7. Reading helps you mature faster than those who don't (whether they are within your age bracket or older)
8. Reading has a way of developing your mind beyond the ordinary.
Take note that, there are so many other advantages that comes with reading that is not stated here. But the ones I stated here are the selected few.
I hope this writing helps you to see the need to add value to yourself by reading/reading more.
Good morning.
